At Upper Mead Care Home in Henfield, part of the Splendid Care family, the sense of community is shaped not only by the residents who live there, but also by the dedicated people who support them.
One of those people is Claudiu Codarcea, the home’s Deputy Manager, whose journey into care is as inspiring as the warmth he brings to his role every day.
Claudiu came to England 15 years ago, leaving his home in Romania in search of new opportunities. Back home, he had spent time volunteering and had completed service in the Romanian Army. It was only when he arrived in the UK that he discovered the path that would become his true vocation.
When Claudiu first began working in a care home in Ipswich, it was his very first experience within the sector. What started as a job quickly grew into a passion. He found himself drawn to supporting people through kindness, patience and understanding. Encouraged by colleagues and driven by a desire to learn more, Claudiu began studying to become a nurse. Through dedication and hard work, he completed his training and proudly gained his PIN number.
For the next 10 years, Claudiu worked in a nursing home, building both his clinical expertise and his confidence. Those years helped shape the compassionate, capable professional he is today, someone who understands not only the technical side of care, but also the emotional and relational aspects that matter just as much.
Claudiu eventually joined Upper Mead Care Home, where his commitment, reliability and genuine connection with residents quickly shone through. With the support of Manager Lynn Lovett, whom he credits as a key influence in his development, Claudiu progressed to become the home’s Deputy Manager.
He often speaks about how much the close knit team at Upper Mead has contributed to his growth. For Claudiu, teamwork is at the heart of great care. He believes that when staff feel supported and valued, residents feel it too.
Despite the responsibility of his role, Claudiu says he simply loves what he does. What motivates him most is working alongside residents and their families to ensure they receive the very best support possible, care that is personalised, compassionate and grounded in dignity.
Claudiu’s journey reflects his determination and the deep sense of purpose he brings to Upper Mead. His story is one of dedication and genuine care – qualities that enrich the lives of the people he supports every day.
