At Upper Mead Care Home in Henfield, West Sussex, we believe in making every day special — and St Patrick’s Day was no exception. Residents were treated to a fun-filled day of creativity, community, and celebration, with plenty of opportunities to get involved, make something memorable, and enjoy the festive atmosphere.
Our lounge was transformed with touches of green, gold, and plenty of shamrocks as we marked this vibrant day on the calendar. From the moment the activities began, the room was filled with laughter, conversation, and a genuine sense of joy as our residents came together to enjoy the themed celebration.
A Day of Arts, Crafts, and Creativity
Our St Patrick’s Day celebrations centred around a lively arts and crafts session, where residents were invited to create their own decorations. From painting lucky shamrocks to designing festive bunting and traditional Irish symbols, everyone got stuck in and let their creativity shine. For many, it was a chance to reminisce about previous celebrations, share stories, and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of hands-on activities.
Our team of dedicated activities coordinators ensured that every resident was supported and engaged throughout the session. With specially designed templates, stencils, and materials for all abilities, everyone was able to take part and create something they could be proud of.
Spreading Smiles and Irish Cheer
No St Patrick’s Day would be complete without a touch of Irish cheer — and that came in the form of themed music, light refreshments, and plenty of opportunity to chat and celebrate together. Traditional Irish tunes played in the background as residents added finishing touches to their crafts, shared stories of past celebrations, and admired each other’s creations.
We also enjoyed a themed afternoon tea, featuring homemade treats and green-themed delights lovingly prepared by our kitchen team. There were smiles all around as residents tucked into cupcakes, sandwiches, and a refreshing pot of tea while reflecting on the day’s activities.
Building Community Through Celebration
At Upper Mead, these celebrations are about more than just decorations and activities — they’re about fostering a sense of community, joy, and belonging. Our St Patrick’s Day event brought residents, staff, and loved ones together in a shared moment of celebration, reinforcing the bonds that make our care home feel like family.
Events like these are an important part of life at Upper Mead, giving residents opportunities to look forward to, participate in, and create new memories — no matter their level of mobility or care needs. We pride ourselves on creating an environment where everyone can feel involved, inspired, and supported to keep doing what they love.
As the decorations go up and the laughter continues to echo through the halls, we’re reminded once again of the joy that comes from celebrating together. From all of us at Upper Mead, we hope you had a wonderful St Patrick’s Day!
