Antony is well known in health and social care circles as a thoughtful, forward-looking leader with an unwavering focus on improving people’s lived experience of care. His career spans frontline regulation, investigative work, digital transformation and strategic leadership, all of which now enrich his role at Splendid Care.
A Career Shaped by Quality, Safety and Impact
Antony spent more than a decade at the Care Quality Commission (CQC), including three years as Head of Inspection for London, a role that saw him lead teams responsible for monitoring and improving quality across some of the country’s most complex care environments.
During this time, he authored the CQC’s influential “Smiling Matters” report on oral health in care homes, work he remains immensely proud of because of the real and lasting impact it had on people’s health and wellbeing. The report exposed widespread gaps in oral care practice, prompted national discussion and drove significant updates in staff training, assessment and daily mouth care across the sector.
Antony often reflects on the life-changing difference this work made. Better oral care reduces pain, prevents malnutrition, reduces aspiration risk and improves quality of life, so for him, helping drive these improvements will always be a career highlight.
Following his time at the CQC, Antony took up a national leadership role at HC One, the UK’s largest care provider, where he served as Director of Insights, Assurance & Governance. He led a major digital transformation programme and acted as Nominated Individual across more than 290 homes in the UK, ensuring consistent regulatory quality and governance at scale.
He has also contributed internationally, advising the Government of Guernsey on social care redevelopment and has become a familiar speaker at national events and industry forums.

He is passionate about strengthening Splendid’s approach across its existing homes. From here at Upper Mead in Henfield, to Derwent Lodge in Billingshurst and Ullswater Cottage in Pease Pottage, Antony is equally excited about the future developments now underway.
